Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling but especially ground fighting. It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant using leverage and proper technique; most notably, by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat them.
BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Sparring (commonly referred to as 'rolling') and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition.
Todd Smith began training in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1997 after having been inspired by watching Royce Gracie in the UFC. He went on to become a student of Royce Gracie & has been teaching & competing for over 10 years. He has won a total of 30 BJJ tournaments & has helped train & develop numerous BJJ & MMA champions. His goal is to help people become more healthy & self-confident through fitness training & martial arts.
We are part of the West Coast BJJ and MMA Team. What does that mean? You can train at any of their BJJ classes in 12 other cities provided your membership is in good standing with us.
